Align your studies to your passions by choosing from a variety of optional modules.
Be career ready by gaining transferrable, professional and employability skills
Develop the key problem-solving, logical reasoning and practical skills that employers are looking for with Keele’s Mathematics programme, which offers in-depth coverage of the three core disciplines – pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. Pure mathematics focuses on mathematical proof, logical argument and abstraction, applied mathematics is concerned with methods and their application to modelling real-world problems, and statistics involves mathematical modelling of uncertainty and the analysis of data.
Throughout the programme you’ll apply your learning to real-world phenomena or experiences, providing context to your learning and strengthening your understanding. You’ll also have the chance to align your studies to your passions by choosing from a variety of optional modules.
Focusing on your employability skills, you will have the opportunity to spend time in industry with both full time and modular placement opportunities. You will also build on your professional and transferable skills with extended problem work, report writing, effective communication of mathematical results, and collaboration with others.
In your final year you can undertake a substantial piece of research, applying theoretical knowledge and problem-solving skills to a technical, software, research or business problem. Your research project is an excellent opportunity for you to draw together skills in experimental study design, critical interpretation of data, presentation and project management. From exploring financial mathematics and medical statistics, to undertaking a placement in a school or college, - you will also have the opportunity to personalise your studies to suit your career aspirations or interests.
*We have compared the positivity ratings of all participating UK institutions using the NSS 2025 sector data to determine Keele's position relative to other broad-based universities (i.e. excluding specialist institutions and further education colleges).
