Our BA (Hons) Education with a year abroad is a forward-looking, research-led, three-year course which will give you the range of knowledge and skills needed for an exciting and rewarding career in this field.
It is a fast-growing area of study that draws on the disciplines of psychology, philosophy, history and the social sciences focusing on understanding how people learn and how structures of education operate to foster life-long learning and personal development.
Our Education degree provides an ideal route into careers such as early years teaching, education administration, community development work, education research, and roles in local authorities, community education and education publishing as well as postgraduate study.
Based on our stunning Singleton Park campus, in parkland overlooking Swansea Bay on the edge of the Gower Peninsula, you will have the opportunity to learn about historic and contemporary education policy and practice, learn about different styles of leadership and management, gain an understanding of what education looks like in different countries and explore the relationships between equality, equity and diversity and education and examine issues relating to additional learning needs and wellbeing.

You will have the opportunity to undertake work placements in organisations such as schools, local authorities, businesses and charities to enhance your student experience and your career prospects.
Our Education graduates enter careers including, Primary and secondary school teaching, Early years teaching, Education administration, Community development, Education publishing and Postgraduate study.
You will need an additional Initial Teacher Education (ITE) or Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) qualification to become a teacher.
In your first year of your undergraduate Education BA (Hons) degree you will study areas that include contemporary education; the origin and theory of educational research and education in other countries.
In Year 1, you will typically study areas including: Education and Society, Child Development, What is Teaching and Learning?, Education Research Skills in Education, Philosophy and Theory in Education, Creative and Critical Thinking in Schools
In Year 2, you will typically study areas including: Additional Learning Needs, Protecting and Promoting Wellbeing in Education, Research methods in Education and Early Childhood Studies.
As part of this programme, you will spend a year abroad between your second and final year, broadening your skills and experience.
