Course summary

If you're serious about building a career as a DJ, producer or live electronic artist, ICMP’s BA (Hons) DJ and Electronic Music Production explores a powerful combination of creative, technical and business skills over three years.

You’ll learn how to perform live sets, craft original tracks, design immersive audio-visual experiences and start to develop your unique sonic signature as an artist. You’ll also plan and run DJ events, learning the key creative and entrepreneurial skills to thrive in today’s global electronic music industry.

From day one of this electronic music production course, you’ll gain access to industry-standard gear – vinyl turntables, CDJs, controllers, cutting-edge visual performance tools, DAWs like Ableton Live and Logic Pro and an array of industry-standard plug-ins. Whether your focus is Techno, House, Hip-Hop, D&B, Garage or beyond, this degree gives you the freedom to follow your musical instincts while building a strong foundation in production, performance and marketing.

Over this DJ degree programme you’ll delve deeply into DJ performance, sound design, mixing, mastering and digital production, culminating in a final year project where you’ll deliver a full-scale production, live performance or multi-media creative work. You’ll also explore key music entrepreneurial topics including branding, digital marketing, live event management and global DJ culture.

With guidance and direction from expert ICMP tutors – who are all successful DJs, producers or live-performance specialists – you’ll develop your skills alongside like-minded musicians and DJs. You’ll be encouraged to collaborate across the wider ICMP and SAE community, regularly getting creative with artists, songwriters, producers, gamers, event managers and marketers to deliver musical experiences that form an enviable professional portfolio of work. You’ll also attend a host of industry activities like masterclasses with leading industry guests, musical showcases and careers events, helping you to develop your style and musical brand.

By graduation you’ll be ready to step into roles such as DJ, producer, live electronic performer, remixer or audio-visual creator, equipped with the creative vision, technical expertise and industry awareness to make your mark.
