More than just a business, luxury is a language, a value proposition that encompasses a wealth of fields—from fashion and beauty to hospitality and technology. In this program, students will become fluent in its many iterations, thanks to rigorous coursework, exclusive seminars, and regular interactions with expert faculty and guest speakers from the leading luxury concerns in New York City.

This MA program offers a distinctive focus on the growing intersection of art and luxury, illuminating the creative impulses as well as the business strategies at work.

Designed for ambitious graduates, entrepreneurs, and professionals seeking to advance or pivot their careers, the MA in Luxury Business offers an immersive education that bridges business acumen with cultural fluency, equipping graduates to excel in a fast-moving global market.

Highlights
Experiential learning Visits and international study trips are significant learning events, with the travel, seeing the art in situ and informal access to tutors serving to intensify the experience. This program includes two intensive European field studies, in Milan and Paris, which will provide immersive experiences in the ateliers, innovation hubs, showrooms, and cultural sites that converge to create luxury products and experiences.

First-hand experience of luxury in different sectors Through site visits to specific retail stores and venues and other independent brands in New York, students explore how luxury is created and experienced in different contexts.

Learning from the specialists The program features high profile academics, industry practitioners, and special guests, previously including Rebecca Robins (Interbrand); Gaia Rosetti (Belmond); Viviane Paraschiv (Farfetch); and Alex Gander.

The Enterprise StudioGives Mater's students hands-on entrepreneurial support, mentorship, and resources to develop real ventures in the art and luxury sectors, culminating in The Gavel pitch competition.

Privileged access to the Art World With its links to Sotheby’s, MA in Luxury Business is the only MA in luxury that can offer original contents and specific expertise on the interaction between the arts and luxury.

Leadership and professional development opportunities The program also considers the future career path of the students by offering them workshops in leadership and professional development."

Modules

"The Master’s degree is awarded for 36 credit hours. Students take 30 credits across semesters one and two and complete a 6-credit thesis or capstone project in the third semester.

The program includes two intensive European field studies, in Milan and Paris, which will provide immersive experiences in the ateliers, innovation hubs, showrooms, and cultural sites that converge to create luxury products and experiences. Students will have behind-the-scenes access to the many leaders driving creativity, technology, innovation, and business strategy in the sector. "

International applicants

"International applicants who are unsure whether their overall mark is equivalent to a Lower Second-Class Honours (2:2) are encouraged to contact the Admissions Office before applying.

  • A valid English language proficiency exam (required for all international students (EU included): A minimum overall score of IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL IBT 100 or Pearsons PTE Academic 65 must be achieved. A writing score of IELTS 6.5 is required.

We also accept a number of additional Secure English Language tests. Please contact the Admissions Team for guidance if you are planning to take (or have completed) another test.

Entry requirements

"To be eligible for admission, applicants must have earned a Bachelor’s degree with at least a Lower Second-Class Honours (2:2) – or equivalent – from an accredited institution by the date on which they enrol at the Institute.

Please be advised that a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is a mandatory requirement, work experience cannot be accepted in lieu of this qualification.

International applicants who are unsure whether their overall mark is equivalent to a Lower Second-Class Honours (2:2) are encouraged to contact the Admissions Office at admissions@sia.edu before applying.

We welcome applicants from a range of academic backgrounds. Where an applicant to one of our programmes (excluding MA Luxury Business) does not have a first degree in art history or a related subject, the offer may include a recommendation or requirement to complete an introductory Art History course prior to enrolment."
