Construction Management

Our hands-on foundation degree is your gateway to technical careers in construction design, quantity surveying or project delivery.

You’ll develop the skills and knowledge you need for a range of higher level roles within the construction industry. There will also be opportunities for industrial visits and networking through guest lectures, events and competitions.

You can tailor your studies to the area that most interests you, with the option of taking one of the following specialist pathways:

Construction design and build technician – ideal for aspiring design managers, contracts managers or construction managers. You’ll cover construction methods, architectural design, legal aspects, surveying and inspection.
Quantity surveying technician – geared to students who want to become assistant quantity surveyors, construction surveyors or cost engineers. You’ll learn how to monitor and control costs and contracts on construction projects.
Site supervisor – for prospective assistant site managers, assistant supervisors or construction site supervisors. You’ll look at supervising contracts, health and safety standards, quality control and reducing environmental impact.

On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: FdSc Construction Management

Year one Compulsory for all pathways: Building Services and Environmental Science; Construction Technology and Materials; Legal and Economic Context of Construction Projects and Materials; Project Procurement and Costing
Year Two Design and Build Technician Compulsory: Building Surveying and Inspection; Construction Information Management; Construction Practice; Construction Technology Management
Year Two Quantity Surveying Technician Compulsory: Construction Practice; Construction Technology Management; Measuring and Estimating in Construction; Tender and Procurement
Year Two Site Supervisor Compulsory: Construction Practice; Construction Technology Management; Geotechnics and Soil Mechanics; Site Supervision and Operations

All assessment mechanisms will focus, wherever possible, on integrating practical and theoretical methodologies to ensure that students can demonstrate their technical skills by way of showcasing their knowledge and understanding of the attendant theory whilst incorporating professional standards and behaviours.
