Paramedics do more than respond to emergencies. They support people with long-term conditions and mental health needs. They help prevent hospital admissions and provide emergency healthcare. Our Paramedic Science course reflects this evolving role.

Why come to Stirling to qualify as a paramedic

You’ll gain all the essential knowledge and paramedic training for your practice. You'll learn in a wide range of dynamic care settings and experience roles related to other disciplines such as health and social care. In addition to our Paramedic practice modules, you'll also learn about topics such as:

  • How the body works

  • Assessing and managing serious illness and injury

  • Managing the care of mental health issues

  • Maternity and paediatric care

As part of your degree, you’ll experience contemporary paramedic practice during placement on an operational ambulance. You’ll respond to 999 calls in the community across both urban and rural settings. There is also the opportunity to experience various hospital departments.

We provide dedicated wellbeing support and resilience training to prepare you for the demands of paramedic practice.

This course is currently only available for students domiciled in Scotland.

Health and Care Professional Council's (HCPC) accreditation

This paramedic degree is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council. After graduation, you will be eligible to register with the HCPC as a fully qualified paramedic.

Becoming an independent healthcare practitioner

Our course focuses on developing your leadership skills. You’ll also gain the expertise to work autonomously and make evidence-based decisions. You'll learn from lecturers who are practicing paramedics.

Multi-disciplinary learning and practical skills

Our NHS partners are across Fife, Forth Valley, and Tayside health boards. You’ll have opportunities to learn in real-world health care settings and specialities across both urban and rural areas. You’ll work with other healthcare professionals to learn about integrated team approaches. This includes nurses, midwives and doctors.

Our BSc Paramedic Science course includes hands-on training in different settings such as:

  • the care of older adults and the ageing population,

  • emergency rooms,

  • maternity,

  • adult care,

  • voluntary services.

You’ll learn from activities like guest talks by experienced paramedics, group work, and simulations and immersive clinical scenarios.

In line with the Health and Care Professional Council's (HCPC) Standards of Education and Training (SET) and Standards of Proficiency (SOP) you will actively participate in a wide range of dynamic care settings.

Spend approximately 50% of your time on placement with the Scottish Ambulance Service and hospital departments across Fife, Forth Valley, and Tayside.

We are 1st in Scotland, 2nd in the UK for Paramedic Science (Complete University Guide 2026).
