This course provides knowledge, skills, understanding and reflective practice in community youth work and an opportunity to gain a professional qualification. You will develop the qualities needed for situations requiring the exercise of personal responsibility, and decision making in complex, unpredictable
circumstances.
The course has three main aims:
Develop effective professional practitioners in community youth work
Enhance the professional skills and employability of community youth workers
Challenge, develop and engage critically in community youth work issues through informed and innovative methods of teaching and learning
There are a range of career options available to graduates and these include opportunities across the statutory and community and voluntary sectors. Graduates will be qualified Community Youth Workers equipped to undertake key roles to the required standard.
Students are normally in full-time, paid employment and many will change employment during or following completion of the course. Other students are promoted to managerial or project based leadership roles.
Successful completion of the level 7 PgDip Community Youth Work equips the graduate with the professional qualification. They will have developed a critical understanding of a complex body of knowledge. The graduate will have developed reflective, analytical and problem-solving skills suitable for a range of employment opportunities in the profession. The graduate will be able to evaluate evidence, arguments and assumptions, to reach sound judgements, and to communicate effectively. Completion of the PgDip Community Youth Work enables graduates to complete the MSc by dissertation (1 year).
