German at Aberdeen is rated 'Excellent' in the Teaching and Quality Assessment and Mathematics is highly rated for research in Pure and Applied areas.
German for Beginners provides an intensive introduction to the German language for students with no previous knowledge of German, or with qualifications beneath Higher or A-Level standard.
For students with a Higher or A-Level qualification in German, German Language courses deal with advanced aspects of German grammar and vocabulary, designed to improve students’ command of both written and spoken German.
Students can choose between focusing their attention on Mathematics or spreading their interests to combine it with other subjects.
Mathematics is a powerful international language used to describe situations in precise but abstract terms. Our graduates find their skills highly valued by employers both for their rigorous thinking and their versatility.
We offer a challenging syllabus which emphasises reasoning, discussion and the argumentative side of mathematics. Our ambition is to give you a sound preparation for a career in which mathematics plays a role, whether it be in research or through applications.
As an integral part of your 4-year programme, you will spend half of year three developing your language skills as a teaching assistant or visiting student in a German-speaking country.

The use of various forms of assessment and learning environments facilitates the development of generic transferable skills enhancing student employability.
Students are assessed by any combination of three assessment methods: coursework such as essays and reports completed throughout the course; practical assessments of the skills and competencies they learn on the course; and written examinations at the end of each course. The exact mix of these methods differs between subject areas, years of study and individual courses.
Honours projects are typically assessed on the basis of a written dissertation.

For First Year Entry a minimum of 3 A Levels at BBC, including Mathematics and German. GCSE in English or English Language also required.
For Second Year Entry a minimum of an A in the subject selected for Single Honours plus BB, or AB in the subjects selected for Joint Honours plus a further B.
A Level Mathematics AND GCSE in English or English Language is also required.
Applicants who achieve BBBB or better (to include Mathematics and German) over S4 and S5 are likely to be made an offer of admission. This may be unconditional or it may be conditional, dependent upon academic profile. Good performance in additional Highers / Advanced Highers may be required.
Note: we do not double count a Higher and Advanced Higher in the same subject, but we do consider that a B at Adv Higher is equivalent to an A grade at Higher.
National 5 English at minimum grade C.
Second year entry may be possible in most school based subjects. A minimum of ABB overall in Adv Higher is required. Adv Higher at A in the subject selected for Single Honours or AB in the subject selected for Joint Honours. Higher Mathematics and German also required.
Minimum of 32 points required, including at least 5,5,5 at HL, to include Mathematics.
English at a minimum of Standard level required. If you have no previous qualification in German you will be moved to the 5-year version of this programme.
Minimum entry requirement: DMM in related subjects. A-Level Maths AND GCSE in English or English Language also required. If you have no previous qualification in German you will be moved to the 5-year version of this programme.
One FA is equivalent to a Higher at A. It cannot replace any required subjects.
Five subjects at Higher at H3 to include Mathematics. O in English or in English Language also required for entry.
If you have no previous qualification in German you will be moved to the 5-year version of this programme.
There is no formal requirement for entry to the German beginners' course. A pass in German at SQA Higher, GCE A Level or equivalent is necessary for entry to the German non-beginners course.
