The HNC lays the foundation of learning by providing a broad introduction to construction and different construction management functions. This develops and strengthens core skills while preparing you for specialist subjects at Level 5 or to enter employment with the qualities necessary for job roles that require some personal responsibility. You will gain a wide range of construction knowledge linked to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Students are involved in vocational activities that help them to develop behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for a competence) and transferable skills. Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and in the workplace. By the end of Level 4, you will have sound knowledge of the basic concepts of construction. You will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as in general skills and qualities relevant to key areas of construction
The purpose of the HNC Construction Management for England (HTQ Status) is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals who are able to meet the demands of employers in the construction sector and adapt to a constantly changing world.
The qualification will provide you with core skills required for a range of careers in construction, specifically those related to management and operations. It will expand on knowledge and understanding within the construction environment.
It will help you develop confidence to work across different business functions and to lead, manage, respond to change, and tackle a range of complex construction situations
Develop an understanding of the major impact that new digital technologies have on the construction environment as well as equip students with knowledge and understanding of culturally diverse organisations, cross-cultural issues, diversity and values, and to allow flexible study to meet local and specialist needs.
The qualification aims to widen access to higher education and enhance future career prospects and progression.

Please note: we accept a maximum of 20 UCAS points from GCE AS Levels and that the Welsh Baccalaureate (core) and A Level General Studies will be recognised in our offer. We will also consider a combination of A Levels and BTECs/OCRs.

All learning resources will be available through the college library or VLE as E-Books, therefore there is no formal requirement to purchase textbooks. Although a list of recommended texts is provided, we also promote the use of online journals, e-books, webinars and podcasts.

There will be the opportunity to visits a range of different Construction Sites and Employers as part of the course
Trade shows are available to visit as part of the course, these could be early starts if the event is in London
Equipment
Students are responsible for everyday stationary, access to a laptop and suitable clothing. Students will also need to purchase Steel Toe Capped Boots (for Site Visits and access to the Practical Workshops)
