Acting brings stories to life across theatre, film, television, and emerging platforms. This course is designed for aspiring actors who want to develop their performance skills while gaining a practical understanding of the industry. You will explore classical and contemporary acting methods, voice and movement, script work, and character development, while also learning how to adapt for stage, screen, and voice-over performance. With a focus on both creativity and professionalism, the course equips you with the tools to thrive in a fast-evolving performance landscape. Upon completion of your HND, you have the option to progress to a one-year BA [Hons] top-up degree.
Module A: Process and Practice (Year 1)
Assessment 1: Concept and Development (85 Credits)
This unit covers the history, theory, and key techniques of stage and screen acting. You'll study methods like Stanislavski and Meisner, develop character and script analysis skills, and build confidence in voice, movement, and emotion through practical workshops. The unit also explores the social and professional contexts of performance.
Assessment 2: Creative Project (35 Credits)
You’ll apply your learning through a live or recorded project, involving research, rehearsal, and performance of a scripted or devised piece. Reflecting industry practice, this project takes you from interpreting a director’s vision to presenting to an audience, marking your first major step as a professional performer.
Module B: Professional Creative Practice (Year 2)
Assessment 1: Personal Professional Development (45 Credits)
This unit supports your development as a working actor, focusing on your strengths, goals, and performance style. You'll explore auditioning, pitching, and adapting to various formats, while building a professional portfolio with CVs, headshots, showreels, and self-tapes. The unit also covers casting, representation, and the business of acting.
Assessment 2: Professional Project (75 Credits)
In this unit, you’ll create and perform a major acting project — such as a stage production, short film, or devised piece. You’ll lead the process from concept to performance, incorporating feedback, managing rehearsals, and meeting industry standards. This final work showcases your range, technique, and professional readiness.
