Course summary

Mathematics and Physics are natural subjects to combine at university. Comprehending high-level physics requires a strong mathematical foundation. Mathematical models are developed to explain our observations of the physical world.

Our BSc Mathematics and Physics programme gives you access to the combined expertise of staff working in both Physics and Mathematics. Our specialist teaching emphasises the mathematical structure of physical theory, providing a strong basis on which to build a comprehensive understanding of modern physics. You'll work with dedicated staff, all of whom are engaged in current research and many are world leaders in their field. You will benefit from training in cutting-edge mathematical and theoretical physics techniques, and use these to probe the nature of physical reality and push the boundaries of research.

UCAS Tariff - Not accepted

A level - AAB

Essential Subjects: Physics and Mathematics (or equivalent) at grade A are essential. Information: Applicants taking Science A Levels that include a practical component will be required to pass.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

DDD + A at A Level Mathematics. We consider a range of BTEC qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications. A Level in Mathematics (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is essential. A Level in Physics (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is also essential, but we may consider relevant units in your BTEC as A Level Physics equivalent.

Access to HE Diploma - D: 36 credits M: 9 credits

We will consider the Access to Higher Education Diploma. The syllabus must contain a significant portion of Mathematics and Physics that is considered equivalent to A Level standard. Applications will be considered on an individual basis - please contact the Department before you apply.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 35 points

With 6 in Higher Level Physics and Mathematics.

WJEC Level 3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales - A - B

We will consider this qualification alongside or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications, as equivalent to one A Level.

Extended Project - B

If you achieve B or higher in the EPQ, you may be eligible for an alternative offer up to one A level grade (or equivalent) below our typical offer.

OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma

DDD + A at A Level Mathematics. We consider a range of OCR qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications. A Level in Mathematics (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is essential. A Level in Physics (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is also essential, but we may consider relevant units in your OCR as A Level Physics equivalent.

T Level

We consider a range of T Level qualifications, in combination with an A Levels in Mathematics and Physics (or equivalent qualification). Please contact us to discuss your qualifications.
