Why Performing Arts (Level 6)?
Our Performing Arts degree enables you to build practical techniques and theoretical knowledge in singing, dancing and acting. Optional modules allow you to focus on your own particular passions and ambitions, with the chance to study aspects of theatre such as choreography, business development and digital theatre. With the chance to gain experience working in settings including Cheltenham's Everyman and Playhouse theatres, as well as at venues like the Wilson Art Gallery and the National Trust’s Croome Court, our graduates stand out from the competition. They can even perform at the internationally-renowned Edinburgh Festival Fringe and have been to New York for workshops with Broadway actors and directors (additional costs may apply, see course web page for details).
You’ll draw on the expertise of experienced professionals as you develop acting techniques for the stage, strengthen your voice and take dance lessons in forms including ballet, tap, modern and jazz. There is also a unique opportunity to achieve dance awards through the internationally recognised Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and gain professional qualifications while you study. Learning in our purpose-built performing arts centre, you’ll take advantage of state-of-the-art facilities including drama and dance studios with full lighting rigs, a multimedia theatre studio and an acoustically designed music and singing room.

Develop acting techniques on stage and for camera. Strengthen your voice and singing with regular tuition. Take dance lessons including ballet, tap, modern and jazz. The course brings together the 'triple threat' of singing, dancing and acting. You’ll learn from lecturers who are performing arts professionals, having worked with organisations such as the Royal Shakespeare Company. Throughout the degree, you’ll be able to choose modules based on what you’re passionate about. You could pursue your goals to become a performer, a technician or to work in performing arts education. You'll have opportunities to study other aspects of theatre, such as choreography, technical theatre and business development; theoretical study underpins all elements of the course.
