This course is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), ensuring your qualification meets national standards. Successful completion of our Midwifery BSc(Hons) means you will be eligible to apply for registration with the NMC and practice as a midwife in the UK. Brighton also holds the UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) full accreditation.

Year 1
In your first year, you’ll build a strong foundation in the science and art of midwifery, exploring the journey from preconception through to early parenthood. You’ll gain essential knowledge in anatomy, physiology, medicines management and evidence-based care, while developing practical skills. Alongside academic learning, you’ll begin clinical placements where you'll apply your skills in a real-world setting, fully supported by a team of experts.

Year 2
In your second year, you will deepen your expertise by exploring the complexities of pregnancy, birth and postnatal care. You’ll learn to assess and manage complications, respond to emergencies and support women and families through challenging situations – developing confidence in your clinical judgement and decision-making. Clinical placements continue to play a vital role, allowing you to refine your skills and deliver safe, compassionate care in more advanced scenarios.

Final year
In your final year, you’ll prepare to step confidently into your role as a qualified midwife, developing the autonomy, leadership and clinical expertise needed for professional registration. You will refine your ability to deliver continuity of care, undertake newborn examinations and lead improvements in practice – all while deepening your understanding of legal, ethical and professional responsibilities. You’ll also explore a topic you’re passionate about through an independent project, helping you to critically evaluate evidence and shape your future contribution to midwifery.

Tuition fees for UK / Home students on undergraduate courses in England are set by the UK government and are known as regulated fees. From academic year 2026–27 onwards, regulated fees will increase annually in line with forecast inflation. The regulated fee will be £9,790 in academic year 2026–27 and £10,050 in academic year 2027–28 (subject to parliamentary approval).
