Turn your passion for music into a professional career with the BTEC HNC/HND in Music Production. This higher education programme is designed to equip you with the creative, technical, and professional industry skills needed to thrive in the fast-paced music industry.
A key feature of the course is its strong emphasis on real-world, industry-focused projects and live briefs. In Semester 2, your own music industry projects will take centre stage as part of your formal assessment. You’ll build valuable knowledge, practical skills, and professional behaviours through expert-led teaching and extensive use of our state-of-the-art recording studios.
Blending hands-on studio experience with real industry engagement, this course prepares you to confidently step into today’s creative sector.
How You’ll Learn
Year 1: Focus on industry skills, branding, networking and professional practice. Includes a work experience placement at Loft Studios.
Year 2: An applied industry project shaped around your chosen pathway, such as running a studio, launching a record label, organising live events, working with a live sound company, or developing your own start-up.

Progression & Careers
On completing the HND you can:
• Progress to a Level 6 top-up degree
• Launch your own business or freelance career
• Work as a producer, sound engineer, live sound technician, composer, label owner, or project manager
You will complete a HNC in year 1 and top this up to a HND in the second year of study.

This is a vocational qualification so you will learn by doing – experience is key!
Key activities – To include:
*Practice - Developing your vocational skills at level 4/5 through workshops, masterclasses and practical seminars.
*Performance - You may be involved with designing workshops, projects or fulfilling commissions – as many creatives will teach at some point in their career this will inevitably include some educational practice.
You will learn to develop and deliver sessions, workshops and work as a facilitator.
This is about how you use your vocational skills to successfully complete projects, live briefs or commissions.
You will produce a Major Project or your own design within your vocational field; this project may use some of the learners from lower levels to be your ‘staff’, talent or performers.
*Professional - You will develop an understanding of managing finances including bidding for funding and managing budgets.
Creating a business plan is a necessary skill that you will develop in relation to projects and enterprise as well Health and Safety management.
You will learn how to deliver a successful pitch to your desired audience – your Major Project could depend on it!
The success of your business is dependent on your mastery of marketing including website creation and using social media to promote your business.
