Course summary

Ready to change direction? If you already have a degree in another subject and want to move into law, this accelerated LLB gives you a fast-track route into the legal profession.

At Southampton, ranked among the top 10 for Law and 6th in the UK for graduate prospects, you will study for a qualifying law degree in just two years. This intensive programme is designed to build your legal knowledge quickly, while developing the critical thinking and communication skills needed for your future career.

You will cover all the core areas of law required to become a solicitor or barrister, with teaching shaped by the latest research from our Russell Group community. Alongside this, you will have the opportunity to explore your own interests through extended study in your dissertation.

Your learning goes beyond theory. Through practical experiences and professional connections, you will see how law works in real settings and begin to shape your career path.

Your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) will support you throughout your time at Southampton, offering guidance on your studies, career planning and access to wellbeing services when needed. You will also be part of a supportive and connected Law School community.

You will have access to excellent learning facilities, including extensive library collections across key areas such as contract law, property law, maritime law, criminal justice and public law. A wide range of electronic resources, including Westlaw, Lexis and Lawtel, are available to support your studies at any time.

Course Modules

On our Accelerated Law Programme you will develop in-depth legal knowledge, together with strong critical thinking and communication skills on a programme recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board.

Some of the modules you may study include Criminal Law; Historical Development of the Common Law; and The Law of Torts

Assessment method

Modules are assessed through exams and/or written assignments. Your dissertation also contributes to your final degree classification. You will receive feedback on your progress from your tutors and formative assessments will help you identify areas for improvement.

Applicants must hold a 2:1 (or GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0) from an undergraduate degree in a non law subject. This must have been completed within the last 3-4 years.

LNAT (Law National Admissions Test) is not required.
