Course summary

  • Learn using real examples of situations to be solved logically through our strong links across industries

  • Accredited by the Institute of Mathematics as meeting the educational requirements of the Chartered Mathematician designation

  • This course has been developed in collaboration with industry, using current methods, platforms, software and data, to ensure you are fully prepared for the workplace upon graduation.

  • You will develop fundamental mathematical and computational techniques via a mixture of individual and group learning.

  • This degree will support you in becoming an outstanding, dynamic problem solver with an excellent technical skillset, preparing you for a fantastic array of professions that require the technical expertise of a data scientist.

  • Taught by active researchers, this course covers the core areas of mathematics and data science while introducing you to applications and social contexts

  • Research projects in each academic year will allow you to develop independent research and project management skills in an area of interest, using real world datasets and guided by an academic supervisor

  • Spend a ‘Year in Industry’ at companies such as Lloyds Banking Group, Coca-Cola, Met Office and PwC

UCAS Tariff - Not accepted

A level - AAB - AAA

Excluding General Studies. Grade A in Mathematics, Pure Mathematics or Further Mathematics required.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DDD

Applicants studying a BTEC Extended Diploma are also required to achieve Grade A at A Level in Mathematics, Pure Mathematics or Further Mathematics.

Access to HE Diploma - D: 30 credits M: 15 credits

Pass the Access to HE Diploma with 30 L3 credits at Distinction grade and 15 L3 credits at Merit Grade. To include 15 L3 credits at Distinction Grade in an acceptable Mathematics subject area. Scottish Higher - AAABB - AAAAB

A in Mathematics, Pure Mathematics or Further Mathematics required.

Scottish Advanced Higher - ABB - AAB

A in Mathematics, Pure Mathematics or Further Mathematics required.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 34 - 36 points

Applicants will be considered with IB 36-34 OR 666 or 665 in three Higher Level Subjects. All applicants will be required to have Grade 6 in HL Maths (Analysis and Approaches).

English language requirements

GCSE English Language with a minimum pass of Grade C or 4.
