Course summary

The programme is intended to develop your expertise in many facets of the modern music industry. There are also many valuable opportunities to really develop in academic aspects through the consideration of various contextual and historical avenues. Additionally, the programme appropriately balances industry-relevant topics with associated academic approaches to certain subjects.

On this programme you will develop your musical skills across a range of areas such as performing, arranging, composing, production and promotion. While the main emphasis is on the three key revenue streams within the industry; performing, composing and music education, the programme allows the learners to gain a well-rounded skillset to ensure sustainability in the wider freelance world.

Assessment method

The programme uses a face-to-face learning approach. The learning and teaching methods typically used by tutors include lectures, seminars, guest speakers, workshops, rehearsals, practical projects and tutorials.

A significant amount of personal study time is expected to be undertaken by you, comprising, for example, preparing and learning musical material, background reading, assignment work, preparation for seminars and practical case studies.

A social learning community including a peer support programme will further enhance this.
