Broaden your understanding of the human body while exploring the development, treatment and prevention of disease with our Royal Society of Biology accredited degree.

Join us in our state-of-the-art SuperLab in Chelmsford, where you’ll combine theory and practice to learn how the human body works in health and disease, and how disease is treated and prevented.

You’ll prepare for a rewarding career in a medical lab by gaining crucial problem-solving, management, and scientific communication skills.

After your first year, you may have the opportunity to transfer to Year 1 of our MBChB Medicine degree.

Assessment method

We'll make sure you're progressing correctly in a number of ways, including multiple choice tests, essays, practical exams, short-answer tests, reflective essays, oral and poster presentations, scientific report writing and independent project work. In the early stages of your degree we'll use the best methods to make sure you gain a solid understanding of all the relevant subject matter. Later on, we'll focus on developing your critical appraisal skills, depth of understanding, and ability to work independently.

Typical qualification requirements

GCSE/National 4/National 5

5 GCSEs at grade D, or grade 3, or above and evidence of two years post-GCSE study at Level 3.

If you have achieved at least grade E in one A level, or equivalent, you are exempt from the two years post-GCSE study requirement, but you still must meet the GCSE requirements.
