Modules

Course modules

Year 1

Principles of programming – Develop your programming skills using a high-level programming language. Computer systems structure – Gain a comprehensive understanding of computer systems alongside the skills to design, build, configure and maintain systems. Introduction to software development – How to model problems and develop software using a high-level language. Fundamentals of computer science – Build maths skills relevant to computer science and an understanding of how computers work internally.

Year 2

Systems development and modern database practices – The design and development process from requirements spec, analysis and design to initial working prototype. Web technologies and platforms – Use client-side and server-side technologies to implement web applications, producing your own product designs. Information technology employability project – Boost your employability by creating a portfolio based on research into career paths and practices in your chosen IT field. User experience design – Develop the skills to model and design displays and interactions that create good user experiences.

Year 3

Advanced information technology – Use advanced IT concepts like HCI, web development and information retrieval to find solutions for organisational challenges. Research methodologies and emerging technologies – Plan your Honours project around current or emerging technologies, using research to back up your proposal. Agile project management – Gain valuable project-management skills for your graduate career. Undergraduate project – Work independently to develop and complete a major project on a topic of your choice.
