Overview

Microbiology lies at the heart of some of the world’s biggest challenges—from tackling antibiotic resistance to driving innovation in energy production. At UEA, our cutting-edge BSc Microbiology degree equips you with the knowledge and practical experience needed to address these pressing global issues and shape the future of science.

You’ll study the full spectrum of microbiology and its underlying concepts, alongside key related subjects such as biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology. As you progress through your degree, you’ll also have the flexibility to tailor your studies to specialise in particular areas of microbiology that capture your interest. In your final year, you’ll have the opportunity to design and undertake an extended research project, giving you hands-on experience in scientific investigation.

At UEA, you’ll benefit from our enviable position as an integral partner of the Norwich Research Park (NRP), which is also home to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, and independent, world-renowned research institutes: the John Innes Centre, the Sainsbury Laboratory, the Earlham Institute and the Quadram Institute, all of which have world-class microbiology-related research programmes.

Norwich is recognised as a hub for microbiology research, home to world-leading experts working across areas such as climate change, infectious diseases and antibiotic resistance.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DDM

in Applied Science (Medical Science/Biomedical Science) or Forensic and Criminal Investigation. Contextual offer: DMM in Applied Science (Medical Science/Biomedical Science) or Forensic and Criminal Investigation. Forensic and Criminal Investigation applicants MUST be studying ONE of the following modules: Physiology and Human Body Systems, Environmental Forensics, Forensic Genetics, Microbiology and Microbiological Techniques Please see UEA website for further information on accepted subjects and combinations. Additional fee information

Tuition fees increase annually for all students in subsequent years of study. Any fee increase is based on the fee for the year that you register. Home undergraduate fees, whose rates are regulated by the UK Government, will be amended in line with any alteration advised by the UK Government. Fees not regulated by the UK Government will increase by a maximum of 4% or RPI-X whichever is the higher. RPI-X is the Retail Prices Index excluding mortgage interest.
