Careers in Racing - Discover the opportunities to start a career in sport

There are many Early Career Programmes and qualifications available in Horseracing from Apprenticeships to Degrees. Apprenticeship Training can take place at the British Racing School, National Horseracing College, The National Stud and Scottish Racing Academy. We also have options such as the British Horseracing Development Programme, Step on Track Programme and the Racing Media Academy.

Careers in Racing showcases the vast amount of jobs in the horseracing industry via apprenticeships, training and jobs. Horseracing is a great place to work! Did you know we are the second largest spectator sport after football? With 59 racecourses throughout the UK from as high as Perth in Scotland, down to Exeter in the South- West you are never too far from the sporting action. Racing takes place all year round and as a major sport we need skills ranging from business and hospitality, to horse care and grounds maintenance. If you love sport or horses, it’s worth taking a look at our website. If you have any questions for us please drop us an email to info@careersinracing.com

I chose a Business Apprenticeship as I understood and saw my career path would benefit from building knowledge and experience, I wouldn’t necessarily get this at College or University. Another reason I chose an apprenticeship is for my future employers to see that I have gained real work experience whilst learning

Opens up so many routes

Working in the horseracing industry opens up so many routes into the sport. We see a mix of people from various backgrounds having long careers and progression. We at Careers in Racing try to support and showcase all the roles in the sport available and how to access them.

Going to an Explore Racing Day changed my life

It’s all fallen into place now, going to an Explore Racing Day and finding about the career opportunities in racing changed my life. From that a successful application followed and I had a great time on my placement as part of the Racing Media Academy. I got to experience so much of the industry including marketing, social media, racecourse experiences and leading on many projects.

Learning some amazing things each day

The best part of the internship is the variety in the tasks which I can take on. I feel as though I am learning some amazing things each day, whether that be with the marketing team, racing team or stable team.
The list of those for whom the programme has been a springboard to successful careers in our sport is long, leaving no doubt as to the enormous impact that the British Horseracing Development Programme has had down the years. We are also proud that we have been able to offer ongoing career guidance opportunities for those that have not made it onto previous programmes, ensuring racing is supporting those expressing an interest in our sport, into the wide variety of opportunities available.
