Hi, everyone! I’m Nally, a second-year student majoring in Media, Communications and Sociology with Quantitative Methods. My course is from the School of Communication and Creativity. I’m from Vietnam, and I moved to London 2 years ago. I currently live in a rented flat and I commute around 30 minutes to school every day. I love listening to music, attending concerts, and taking film photos. I also love exploring unique coffee and matcha places in London. My experience with London has been amazing with lots of things to do.

I have always loved the visual arts and management, so have spent a vast amount of my time dancing, managing my film and photography and also volunteering at my local prestigious museum. 
At Uni I have wanted to keep that up, so joined Dance Society and I also take part in Nerve Radio which is so much fun, but I am also gaining experience as I am considering working in radio in the future, and to produce my own films.

I am Chinese Malaysian, Vietnamese American. I grew up in California and studied at elementary level before I moved to Malaysia to complete my secondary school (IGCSE) and college (A Level) exams. Currently, as the world continues to evolve with technology and technology continues to evolve with the world, I'm keen on learning more about the subsequent consequences of how humanity and the ways we use media will affect the future of our planet. I have always loved the creative arts, particularly Film, TV and Radio as well as the performing arts having danced for over 8 years in Ballet, Tap, Contemporary and Modern Jazz. At Uni, i have found that I love the Producer/Production Manager side of Media Production and hope to do that for a career.

From 2016-2018 I studied Art, Photography and Psychology A-Levels at Princethorpe College, Rugby, and after not being too sure of what I wanted to study at university I decided to throw myself into full time employment. I then came across the Specialist Hair and Media Make-Up course here at University College Birmingham and applied in 2020. Moving cities during the pandemic was very strange, however I soon became very comfortable at The Maltings where I lived with the majority of my classmates. After three years of study, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and I have now moved onto studying Prosthetics for Film and Television MA. Alongside the masters degree, University College Birmingham gave me the opportunity to work for them as an intern in the Marketing Department as part of the masters internship bursary scheme, where my course is paid for in the form of 400 hours of work over the academic year (September-July), which has been a huge benefit for myself financially. I also work as a part time front of house team member at a restaurant in Birmingham city centre, I enjoy this job a lot as I get to interact with lots of different people, I also feel very accepted there as I am free to express myself with my piercings, tattoos and makeup.

I am a second-year PhD student in Film Studies, with a research focus on the intersection of artificial intelligence and documentary filmmaking, particularly through the use of oral histories. My work explores how AI can be applied to enhance and transform traditional documentary storytelling, examining both its creative potential and ethical considerations. I’m especially interested in how AI can help preserve and interpret personal narratives, expanding the ways we capture and share human experiences. My goal is to push the boundaries of documentary film by integrating innovative technologies while respecting the rich history of the genre.
