Hi! I'm Crystal, a second-year MSci Computer Science and Mathematics student with a special interest in Data Science and ML. 

When I started university, I wasn’t entirely sure about my future career path. However, through various opportunities at university, I’ve developed a strong passion for data science and I now feel much more confident about the direction I want to take in my career.

Often spotted around campus carrying badminton rackets because nothing beats badminton after a long day for stress-relief... On my off days I explore places nearby Lancaster, play games with my friends and try out new recipes. Whenever I get homesick, I make Malaysian chicken curry (and it's perfect for winter).

I specialised in Microeconomics and Statistics in my undergraduate degree and am now specialising in Medical Statistics. As a child of immigrants, I have always paid attention to the news, regardless if I thought it be interesting or not, because I had family living under a tyrannic government. This constant attention to news channels, whether that be on the TV or written, became a part of my daily life, naturally. And so, my passion for information and to enable others to be cognizant of certain situations, injustices, etc. transpired. This passion grew over time and by the age of 7, it had transformed into wanting to become an investigative journalist and write everything I experienced and how it differs from other personal experiences.

I currently study marine biology, and plan to pursue a career in conservation. I would love to work with a rescue and rehabilitation center as a rescue coordinator and care specialist, or as a diver for conservation and restoration projects around the world.

Alongside my coursework, I’m a member of the women’s rugby union. I absolutely love my team, and all the experiences I have through them (like Wednesday night socials)! Sport and society opportunities at Bangor are phenomenal, and I’d love to tell you all about them! We also have a multitude of volunteering opportunities, with truly something for everyone. Bangor can feel quite small, but between uni-sponsored opportunities, third-party events, and living on the doorstep of Eryri, there’s no reason you can’t have a vibrant time here.

As an English and Creative Writing student, I am passionate about becoming a screenwriter. My dream is to work for a video game company, like Riot Games or Bethesda, and help adapt their games into a television show; the new show Fallout is a wonderful example of this. I am also currently writing my creative final project as my own original screenplay based on the humour of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I am constantly in the middle of reading numerous books but these are some of my favourites: Brave New World, The Witcher series, Song of Ice and Fire, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings. Some of my favourite video games: Legend of Zelda, Skyrim, Dragon Age, League of Legends, etc. Some of my favourite manga/anime: Sakamoto Days, Spy x Family, One Punch Man, My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan.
