Klaus Richter is Professor of Central and Eastern European History at the University of Birmingham. He has published widely on the history of the Baltics, Poland, Germany, Russia, and Eastern Europe more broadly. A fundamental question he concerns himself with is what people expect from the state and how this changes in periods of crisis. Among other books, he is the author of the award winning ‘Fragmentation in East Central Europe: Poland and the Baltics, 1915-1929’ (2020).
