Student support

At the University of Northampton (UON), your success and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do. We’re here to support you throughout your studies, making your time with us as enjoyable and rewarding as possible. Whether you need help with academics, wellbeing, finances, or preparing for your career, we’ve got you covered.

Our Library and Learning Services team is dedicated to helping you succeed. Academic Librarians are here to guide you through research and referencing, while the Learning Development team can help you sharpen your study skills and excel in assignments. You’ll also be assigned a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) to support you throughout your university journey, offering advice and guidance tailored to your needs.

If you have a disability or additional wellbeing needs, our ASSIST team ensures you can access every aspect of university life. They’ll help you take charge of your learning and build employability skills. If you’re facing mental health or emotional challenges, our Counselling and Mental Health Team provides drop-in sessions, one-to-one appointments, and plenty of advice to improve your wellbeing.

Managing money during your studies can be tricky, but our Financial Guidance Team is here to help. They offer confidential guidance on everything from budgeting and managing your money to understanding Student Finance and accessing university funds.

For students living on campus, our Accommodation and Residential Life Team is your first point of contact for support. Whether you need help settling into halls at our Waterside Campus or advice about private accommodation for your second year, they’re always ready to assist. Living on campus also gives you access to our on-site doctor’s surgery. If you’re moving off-campus, our Private Accommodation Officer can help you find the perfect place to live.

We take pride in supporting Care Leavers and Estranged students with tailored advice and guidance, including financial assistance, pre-application support, and guaranteed year-round accommodation for those who apply on time. For International students, our specialist support team is here to help you transition to life in the UK. From visa and immigration advice to organizing an International Orientation Programme, they’ll make sure you feel at home.

At UON, we’re serious about employability. It’s why 95% of our graduates are in work or further study 15 months after finishing their degree. To boost your chances of success, employability is embedded in everything we do, from our curriculum to our Student Futures team, who can help you explore new ideas, gain work experience, and connect with employers. If you need extra support after graduation, our Northampton Employment Promise offers a three- to six-month internship or help with postgraduate study if you’re not in work 12 months after graduation.

Your university experience isn’t just about studying—it’s also about making memories and finding your community. That’s where the Students’ Union comes in. It’s free to join and led by students, for students. With over 60 free sports clubs and societies, independent academic advice services, and a packed calendar of events, it’s your go-to for making the most of university life.

From the moment you join us, you’ll have access to a wide range of support and opportunities. Whether you’re diving into your studies, exploring new interests, or planning for your future, we’re here to help you every step of the way.
