Student life

As a Leicester student, you’ll live in a city made for student life which is friendly, affordable, safe and easy to get around. Campus is just a short walk from the vibrant city centre, offering the perfect balance of excitement and relaxation.

Leicester is one of the UK’s most diverse cities, rich in culture and food. You can enjoy one of the biggest Diwali celebrations outside India on the Golden Mile, and sample global cuisine across the city. For nights out, the O2 Academy hosts live gigs and student events right on campus.

We're a sporty city with Leicester City Football Club, Leicester Tigers (rugby), Leicester Riders (basketball) and Leicestershire County Cricket Club offering live action year-round.

When it’s time to unwind, head to Highcross for shopping, food or a film, or explore The Lanes for quirky cafés and vintage stores. You’ll also find escape rooms, mini golf, karaoke, and more. For green space, Victoria Park next to campus is perfect for relaxing with friends.

Visit University of Leicester to see what life is like on campus.

What's it like to live in East Midlands?
Check out our region guide

The East Midlands comprises five counties, with its main cities being Derby, Leicester, Lincoln and Nottingham.

The region has plenty of history, boasting both the world’s first factory and its first pub (allegedly). It also has many castles, cathedrals and stately homes, including Chatsworth House, which has served as the backdrop to period films like Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice.

And, of course, you’ll find the gorgeous Peak District here. If you end up studying in the East Midlands, definitely make a trip to explore its rolling green hills, peatlands, and quaint market towns – like Buxton, the caverns of Castleton, and Bakewell (home of the famous tart).
