AWS Career Tour: Cloud Computing

Job sector: Digital, IT and Computing

Overview

Ever wondered what ‘the cloud’ actually is? In this Career Tour with Amazon Web Services (AWS), you’ll go behind the scenes to explore the tech, teams and tools that keep the digital world running. Through bite-sized videos, real AWS professionals will show you how cloud computing works - and the careers that make it happen.

From cyber security to sustainability, you’ll learn how your favourite apps, games and online services are powered by data — and protected every step of the way.

Why It’s Worth Your Time

This tour isn’t just about learning how the cloud works - it’s about discovering where you might fit into it. Whether you’re into tech, engineering, problem-solving or sustainability, there’s a career in cloud computing that could be the perfect match for you.

What's covered in this Virtual Work Experience

Introduction to Cloud Computing

The cloud is where your data lives and moves and is powered by data centres with servers that store, manage, and process the data behind your favourite apps, games, and streaming services. Guiding you through this stop is a Data Centre Operator at AWS - one of the many roles that help make cloud computing possible.

Computer Networks

You’ll meet a Network Engineer at AWS and learn how routers, cables and switches connect devices around the world. Find out how the internet really works — from DNS and IP addresses to the systems behind every online search.

Cyber Security

How do you keep millions of users safe online? With layers of digital defence. In this stop, you’ll follow a Cyber Security Specialist at AWS as they explain how tools like encryption and machine learning keep the cloud secure, and why their job is more important than ever.

Physical Components of a Computer

What actually makes a computer tick? A Data Centre Engineering Operator will show you how inputs, storage, processors and outputs all work together — like the organs of a body — to create a functioning system.

Sustainability

Tech doesn’t have to cost the earth. You’ll see how AWS is making its data centres more efficient — from using recycled water and cooling systems to investing in renewable energy. Learn how shared cloud infrastructure reduces waste and supports a greener future.
