What does a sales assistant do?
Sales assistants serve and assist customers in shops, supermarkets and department stores. You could do a variety of jobs in this role, such as working on the customer service desk, working as a cashier behind the tills, or stacking shelves – known as replenishment.
You need to have good communication skills and an understanding of customer service. If you’re working on tills, basic numeracy is also useful.
What do I need to do to become a sales assistant?
You do not need any specific qualifications to become a sales assistant, though many stores ask for maths and English at GCSE level.
