This statistical release reports interim applicant totals in the 2015 UCAS application cycle as at Monday 15 December 2014.

It covers applicants who have applied for any course, including courses with an October deadline (statistics for those applying to October deadline courses were published in October 2014).

Statistics are also provided for applicant totals as at the third Monday in November in previous cycles. This is an interim point in the application cycle and, unlike statistics for application deadlines, no direct comparison between cycles is possible.

Over the past four cycles, applicant totals have increased by between 68% and 91% from the December interim comparison point and the January deadline. The increase between this point and the January deadline has varied each cycle.

The proportional cycle to cycle change in applicants recorded at the January deadline is often different to that recorded at this interim point.

Figures published after the 15 January UCAS application deadline will provide the first reliable indication of general demand for higher education this cycle.

The ‘Technical notes and definitions section’ on the second page contains more important details on this release.
