Are you looking to deepen your understanding of neurodiversity and make a real difference in your workplace or educational setting? This Postgraduate Certificate is designed for educators and other professionals who want to develop advanced knowledge and skills to effectively support neurodivergent people and drive neurodiversity affirming practice in many settings.

Throughout the course, you’ll connect theory to practice to build a strong grounding in key policy and legal frameworks. Gain a detailed understanding of specific neurodivergences including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, DCD/Dyspraxia and DLD.

Complete the course with the skills to lead on neuroaffirmative practice and the resources to share that learning with colleagues, and study entirely online in twilight sessions designed to fit around the demands of full-time work.

The course runs over two trimesters in the course of one year, The course consists of one 30-credit module per trimester. Trimester one: Neurodiversity, Critical Autism Studies, and Social Justice You’ll develop a theoretical framework for understanding neurodiversity and critical autism studies, alongside the relevant policy and legal context for how education and business respond to the rights of neurodivergent individuals. You’ll become well versed in the key terminology and critical frameworks needed to discuss these concepts in your professional setting. By the end of the module, you’ll be equipped to develop and deliver CPD on neurodiversity theory, legal frameworks and policy as they relate to your own context. Trimester two: Developing Neuroaffirmative Cultures in Educational and Work Environments You’ll develop a detailed understanding of a range of neurodivergences such as Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, DLD, DCD/Dyspraxia, Autism and ADHD, with options to specialise in areas most relevant to your work. The module focuses on practical implications, examining the need for both anticipatory design and iterative support approaches in educational and workplace contexts. By the end of the module, you’ll be able to develop specialist training on specific neurodivergences and create resources to help plan for neuroaffirmative practice in your setting.

Each module includes two assignments: a short written assignment (4,000 words) and an assessed presentation (PowerPoint slides, supporting resources, and a video recording, equivalent to 2,000 words). The assignments are designed so that you build a practical bank of CPD-ready training materials as you progress, which you can bring back to your professional context to share and implement.

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
