Explore the Universe with this Society for Natural Sciences-accredited and IOP-recognised astronomy and planetary science route through our BSc (Honours) Natural Sciences. You’ll study the solar system, exoplanets, the life cycles of stars, black holes, and cosmic evolution. Using quantitative tools and observational methods, you’ll describe, analyse, and explain phenomena objectively and rigorously. Alongside developing your scientific literacy, you’ll gain practical skills in data analysis and research techniques, preparing you for careers or further study in astronomy, space science, or related research fields.

Modules

Course Modules

This natural sciences degree has three stages, each comprising 120 credits.

Stage 1: You’ll study a 60-credit multidisciplinary foundational science module, a 30-credit essential mathematics module, and choose a complementary 30-credit option module.

Stage 2: You’ll study two 30-credit modules covering fundamental astronomy, examining our solar system and introducing astrobiology, a 30-credit applied mathematics module and a 30-credit practical module.

Stage 3: You’ll study two 30-credit astrophysics modules on quantitatively describing stars and exoplanets and exploring our universe's nature, history, and future, choose a complementary 30-credit option module, and complete your degree with a 30-credit project module.
