Take the most direct route to qualify as a solicitor with our Integrated Master’s. Over four years you’ll study our practically focused LLB Law content alongside our professional SQE1 and SQE2 preparation modules.

The first three years of this programme involve study of our LLB modules which cover the necessary foundation subjects and the syllabus areas for the SQE1 examination. Over years three and four, you will gain all the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake SQE1 and SQE2 examinations to prepare you for a career as a solicitor.

The MLaw - Solicitors’ Practice course is designed to cover a comprehensive legal curriculum over four years. Taught predominantly by qualified lawyers, we focus on the skills that solicitors are seeking, so that you’ll be prepared for the realities of life in legal practice.

Modules

Course Modules

There are two semesters per academic year. Each semester is 15 weeks long; 12 weeks face-to-face tuition, one week consolidation/revision and two weeks to complete the assessments. Students study three modules per semester. All modules are worth 20 credits. The course starts with a one week freshers/induction week.

In Year 4 Semester 1 students study a 60 credit SQE1 preparation module ready to sit the University's internal SQE1 assessments and, should they wish, the SRA's SQE1 examination in January. In Semester 2, students study a 20 credit SQE preparation 2 module (sitting the SQE2 examination in April) and also a 40 credit Level 7 practice based research project.

Year 1:

All modules are at Level 4 and are worth 20 credits. All modules are compulsory. The modules are:

• Legal Method and Skills

• Public and EU Law

• AI Literacy for the Future Professional

• Contract Law

• Criminal Law

Year 2:

All modules are at Level 5 and worth 20 credits. Compulsory modules are in Semester 1 and are:

• Critical Approaches in Current Legal Issues

• Land Law

• Tort

Students study three prescribed options in Semester 2:

• Access to Justice and Legal Services

• Business Law 1

• Real Estate

Year 3:

All modules are worth 20 credits and at Level 6. In Semester 1, students study the following modules:

• Equity & Trusts (core module)

• Civil Dispute Resolution (prescribed option)

• Business Law 2 (prescribed option)

In Semester 2 students study one compulsory module:

• SQE 1 & 2 Preparation

and two options*, grouped by pathway to support students in their choices:

SQE and CILEX Pathway (recommended)

• Criminal Litigation and Evidence

• Wills and Succession

Students at London Bloomsbury who have an interest in Canadian law will be able to additionally select as optional modules:

*All options are indicative and are available subject to numbers.

**The Legal Advice Clinic is a clinical legal education module where students will be supervised to advice real clients by University of Law LLP. Eligibility conditions will apply to this module.

Year 4:

All modules are at Level 7.

Semester 1:

• SQE1 Preparation (60 credits)

• SQE 2 Preparation (20 credits)

• Practice Area Research Report (40 credits)
