Course summary

This course will help you to ease back into education and provide you with support throughout. Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to progress onto a University of Derby undergraduate degree without needing any previous qualifications and you are guaranteed a place on any of our joint honours degrees and some of our single honours degrees.

As well as improving your language and numeracy skills you’ll develop your confidence in writing essays and reports, undertaking research, delivering presentations, managing your time and working as part of a team. You’ll be taught in classes where you will actively engage with other students and lecturers in both groups and discussions.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE Maths and English Grade 4/Grade C (or above) or equivalent qualification

There are no formal entry requirements, however, you will need to demonstrate a commitment and ability to study at this level, and take a literacy and numeracy screening test before we can offer you a place. GCSE Maths and English are preferred for entry to the course but level 2 English and Maths can be studied alongside your course. However, if you undertake L3 Physics or Maths as part of your course you are required to have achieved GCSE Maths Grade C or above prior to you starting your studies.

English language requirements

IELTS overall score at a minimum of 5.5; with at least IELTS 5.0 in each band (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing) or another Secure English Language Test (SELT) at CEFR level B2 or above
