Course summary
Our Music (with Foundation Year) BA option is a four-year course with an integrated foundation year which leads to the same qualification as our three-year honours degree. It has been specifically designed for those wanting to undertake degree-level study but who may not meet the entry requirements or have traditional qualifications.
The Foundation Year (Year 0) offers you the chance to expand and strengthen your confidence, skills and knowledge – ensuring that you are well-prepared and qualified to progress into Year 1 of the undergraduate degree.
At Bangor University, making music and understanding music go hand in hand. You will be taught by world-renowned composers, performers and musicologists, who will encourage you to explore the connections between all three fundamental aspects of musical study and how they relate to wider culture and society.
On successful completion of your Foundation Year, you can progress to Year 1 of the BMus(Hons) Music. Our BMus course is exclusively music modules whilst our BA Music course includes optional modules from other subjects. We also offer a foundation programme for our BA programme please see Music (with Foundation Year) W30F.
‘Placement Year’ and 'International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. We are happy to accept combinations of the qualifications listed above, as well as alternative Level 3 qualifications such as: Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), City & Guilds Advanced Technical Diplomas, Cambridge Technical Certificates and Diplomas; Irish Leaving Certificate. We also welcome applications from mature learners and/or those with other qualifications are considered on individual merit.

Additional fee information
For Home Students the full-time fee for the Foundation Year will be £,5670 (provisional) and then, the Full-time Fee will apply on progression to year 1 of the degree course or any linked degree course. Please see our website for more information.
On 4 December 2024 the Welsh Government confirmed that the tuition fee cap (the maximum tuition fee that regulated providers can charge to certain students on full-time undergraduate courses) will increase to £9,535 per year, subject to changes in the regulations by the Welsh Government.
