Course summary

Our Architectural Technology BSc(Hons) course provides the skills you need to become a professional architectural technologist.

The course has been developed to work alongside our Architecture, Construction Project Management and Quantity Surveying courses. This helps you develop a strong understanding of professionalism within the construction industry, with our practice-led course introducing you to aspects of technical detailing and digital design.

Why study Architectural Technology BSc(Hons)?

On this course, you’ll develop the skills to become a creative technical designer, capable of managing the progress of a construction project, whilst understanding the materials, components, structural systems, and environments behind the world’s best buildings.

You’ll acquire expertise in the latest construction digitalisation strategies, such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), and on strategies to improve value and reduce waste through Lean Construction.

You’ll be encouraged to develop skills aligned to the state of the art in industry practice, too, with an emphasis on enterprise and continuing professional development. You could have the opportunity to work in a range of architectural and construction-related areas, while becoming prepared for further study and research.

In the National Student Survey 2025, Building is ranked top in Yorkshire for learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, academic support, learning resources, and organisation and management — and top 10 in the UK for teaching on my course and student voice.

You’ll have the chance to undertake a work placement year in the UK or abroad, helping to prepare you for your future career.

Architectural Technology BSc(Hons), is part of a suite of courses that includes Quantity Surveying, building Surveying and Construction Project Management. You could switch to one of the other courses at the end of the first year, if your interests change.
