Learn about the multiple and complex challenges facing the energy industry, such as decarbonisation, wide scale digitisation, and decentralisation.
Technological change and government initiatives in the energy and finance industries are creating new products, markets, and business models. We will train you to assess complex issues requiring close collaboration across related topics in the social sciences.
You will learn to analyse, synthesise, and articulate concepts and practices relevant to the energy industry. You will understand the fundamental drivers of various energy markets, such as oil, gas, and electric power. You'll acquire foundational and contextual knowledge and skills in management, through classroom and work-based learning, and coaching from specialist academics or senior industry professionals.
CEPMLP has been a global voice of energy law and policy since 1977. We are now working towards the transition to low-carbon economies worldwide. With over 6,000 postgraduate alumni from more than 50 countries, we prepare our graduates for high–profile careers in the public and private sectors.
Modules include: natural resources sectors (a multidisciplinary introduction); dissertation or internship; energy economics (the tools); energy economics (the issues); quantitative methods for energy economists; financial and project analysis of natural resources and energy ventures; commodity trading and strategic asset optimisation in the energy industry; legal framework for international project finance; risk analysis for energy and mining investment decision making.
For each module, there is an assessment mix typically consisting of
quizzes
projects
research papers
mid-term or final exams
There is also a choice between an internship report and a business project.
You should have the equivalent to a UK Honours degree, preferably at 2:1 level or above. Candidates with a 2:2 degree may also apply. Preferred degree disciplines are Law, Economics, Geology, Petroleum or Mining Engineering, Finance.
Work experience in the energy/natural resources industry is an advantage, though it is not a strict requirement for admission to the MSc.
