Course summary

This course will allow you to develop broad-ranging engineering knowledge. You'll gain the specific skills you need to turn designs for buildings and bridges into reality, or design innovative and sustainable solutions to global challenges.

During this degree you'll have the opportunity to take part in site visits and placements, providing a practical focus. You'll also carry out hands-on work in our specialist labs and facilities. You'll benefit from strong industry connections and insights from world-class researchers.

You'll focus on the design of structures with topics such as an introduction to architecture, sustainable engineering systems, and construction management. You will emerge as a well-rounded engineer with an in-depth understanding of the key civil engineering disciplines.

Candidates will be considered for Foundation Year entry only. Please see Engineering with Foundation Year for specific entrance requirements. Candidates who also have A Level Mathematics will be considered on an individual basis.

Access to HE Diploma
D: 30 credits M: 15 credits P: 0 credits

In a relevant area of engineering or physical science. To include 45 credits at level 3, of which 30 credits should be at Distinction and 15 credits at Merit or higher. At least 15 level 3 credits should be in mathematics at Distinction (including differential and integral calculus). Other units should include analytical engineering sciences (e.g. mechanical or electrical science/principles, physics, chemistry, materials science, electronics).

Scottish Higher

ABB at Advanced Higher including Mathematics. Two Highers at the required grade (in different subjects to those offered at Advanced Higher) may replace a third Advanced Higher.

Extended Project

We welcome applications from students offering an Extended Project and value the skills of research and independent learning that it is designed to develop. If you offer an Extended Project, it will be taken into account as part of your application profile, but we will not usually include it in offer conditions for this degree programme.
