If you are a caring and compassionate individual, our BN (Hons) Nursing (Mental Health) degree will help you become a skilled and highly sought-after graduate nurse, specialising in caring for people of all ages with mental health needs.
Placing the needs of patients and carers, students and mental health nursing practice at its centre, this is a dynamic and interactive professional course. We will support you to realise your potential to become a compassionate, competent and autonomous nurse who is able to deliver and lead mental health nursing care within an ever-changing health and social care environment.
The course enables you to develop and display the values required in modern healthcare: working together with patients; respect and dignity; commitment to quality of care; compassion and improving lives. It also addresses contemporary challenges such as the ageing population, increasingly prevalent long-term health conditions and public health.
Drawing on the most up-to-date research and evidence, you are supported to develop not only your nursing skills but also the graduate attributes required to succeed in the modern workplace.
Your time is split equally between learning theory on campus and applying your knowledge during placements alongside experienced professionals. You study a range of academic core modules and field modules based on theory and practice experiences. As you progress through the course, programme content becomes increasingly complex as your knowledge grows.

The University of Winchester is an Approved Education Institution (AEI) by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). On successful completion of this 3‐year programme you will be eligible to seek admission to part 1 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register.

Qualification requirements
UCAS Tariff - 104 - 120 points
Study in a science or social science graded at a C (A Level) / Merit (BTEC/CTEC/Access) or above is desirable, but not essential.
Access to HE Diploma
We welcome applications from students who are completing an Access to Higher Education Diploma. We normally look for applicants to have studied a course that is in a similar subject and offers are usually made in line with our published tariff point range.
GCSE/National 4/National 5
GCSE A*- C or 9 - 4 pass in English Language and Mathematics is required.
T Level - M
Applicants are required to hold a minimum of 2 x A-level or equivalent qualifications (e.g. 2 x BTEC National Subsidiary Diplomas) and we accept all A-level subjects, including Critical Thinking, General Studies and own-language A-levels. We welcome applicants who have completed the Extended Project (EP/EPQ) and points obtained from this qualification will be included in any offer. In addition, we accept a maximum of 32 points from level 3 qualifications below A2 that are included in the tariff (e.g. AS-levels not studied at A-level, music or dance qualifications).
If you are a mature student, your application will be considered on its individual merits and work or other professional experience may be taken into consideration in lieu of other published requirements.

- Applicants to this course are expected to obtain Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance prior to beginning the course at the University. Our Admissions Team will be in contact with further information about when and how to obtain this clearance after an offer has been accepted. Please note, the cost of the check is covered by the applicant. If you have already have a DBS check and are signed up to the Update Service we will ask you to provide the original DBS certificate after an offer has been accepted. If you have lived or travelled abroad in the past five years, we will also need you to apply for an Overseas Criminal Records check for each country in which you have spent six months or more.
