Rehabilitation and Exercise Science

Our Rehabilitation and Exercise Science BSc invites you to explore the vital contribution that rehabilitation and exercise make to restoring and promoting physical and psychological wellbeing. As one of a handful of exercise science degree programmes delivered within a Faculty of Medicine in the UK, you will study within an academically rigorous environment that brings together scientific knowledge, hands-on practical experience and professional practice. Through a combination of theory and applied learning, this course will support you to develop the real-world skills required to work confidently and competently with individuals across a wide range of rehabilitation, exercise and health settings.

Our Rehabilitation and Exercise Science degree at Keele examines key themes such as the promotion of physical activity, the causes of disease and the prevention of injury. These areas of study connect directly to an expanding range of sectors, including health and social care and sport.

In the first year of our Rehabilitation and Exercise Science degree you will study a suite of shared modules alongside students on our Sport and Exercise Science programme. These shared modules introduce the core scientific disciplines that underpin both areas of study, including anatomy, biomechanics, coaching, nutrition and physiology. You will also undertake a course specific skills module that supports the development of your academic, research and professional competencies. In addition to these core learning experiences, you will have the opportunity to select an optional module that reflects your interests or choose to participate in the university’s Global Challenges Pathway.

As you enter your second and third year, you will build on the knowledge and practical experiences gained during your first year. The course continues to develop your practical handling and the therapeutic skills that are fundamental to exercise physiology. You will also explore contemporary concepts in global health and wellbeing, considering how these influence healthcare systems and the delivery of rehabilitation and exercise services.
