Course summary

The foundation year offers a supportive introduction to university-level study, helping you build the skills, confidence and knowledge to succeed in your degree. You’ll develop essential academic, research and digital skills while exploring the foundations of education and inclusive practice.

You’ll begin by strengthening your academic writing, critical thinking and communication skills, while exploring key cognitive and behavioural theories to understand how people learn and how these ideas apply in real educational contexts. You'll also be introduced to the core ideas and issues across education disciplines, including special and inclusive education, early years and childhood studies. This foundation year provides the perfect stepping stone into higher-level study and a future career in the education sector.
