Course summary
Our degree in criminology and criminal justice is aimed at anyone who wants to learn more about the causes, consequences and prevention of crime at local, national and international levels.
The degree is taught by those who have extensive experience in probation, policing, prison work, policy, youth work and sexual and gender violence responders. This is reflected in real-world teaching and opportunities to gain valuable experience in the placement module, as a volunteer for the Innocence Project and/or study abroad programmes. The course covers theories of criminology and deviance, with specialist modules in crime and the media, gender and crime, security and terrorism and gangs and knife crime, reflecting the expertise of the school teaching team.
Our criminology graduates have taken up roles within the criminal justice system as police officers, prison officers, probation workers and various roles within the civil service. Graduates have also entered careers outside of criminology as teachers, drug support workers, and social workers.
