Course summary

Learn about current economic issues and the challenges facing households, businesses, governments and global organisations. Analyse how internal and external economic changes can influence the allocation of resources, production or consumption.

BA Economics has an application focused approach to the subject and is suited to those who have not taken A level Mathematics, but who have good numeracy and analytical skills.

Gain a strong grounding in economic principles through your study of microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics and data analysis. Develop the mathematical skills needed for economic and business applications.

Advance your analytical techniques by exploring economic modelling and big data analysis. Understand contemporary economic themes, like the economics of diversity and inclusion, behavioural economics and the economics of growth and innovation in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).

Learn how to apply your economic theory to the real challenges facing governments, households, businesses and markets today.

In third year, you will complete a year-long graduate-level placement, providing valuable work experience and an opportunity to further enhance the skills and attributes sought after by top employers.

You can apply for placements with a large organisation or smaller company. You will be supported by university staff whilst on placement and complete related assessments in May.

We also have study abroad opportunities that you can apply for, including a summer or semester abroad.

If this is your first degree and you are a Home student applying for entry in 2027, you do not have to pay your fees upfront. Instead, you can take out a tuition fee loan which is paid straight to the University. This is available to most students, no matter what their household income.

Tuition fees are subject to increase each year, subject to the government’s regulated fee limits. For UK students applying for 2027 entry the Tuition Fee is £10,050.
