This programme constructed around three separate one year courses.
In year 1 you will study for a HNC in Advanced Manufacturing.
In year 2 you will study for a HND in Advanced Manufacturing.
In your final year you will study for a BEng (Hons) in Advanced Manufacturing.
There are 3 possible entry points which are:-
Year 1 for which you will need 48 UCAS points
Year 2 for which you will need a HNC at Merit or better
Year 3 for which you will need a HND at Merit or better
There are 3 possible exit points which are:-
The end of year 1 with a HNC
The end of year 2 with a HND
The end of year 3 with a BEng
Design & Project – applying knowledge gained from other modules into real world project situations
Engineering Mathmatics – applying mathematical methods to solve technical problems.
Engineering Science – understanding the principles underpinning engineering.
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) – using industry-standard software to design components and assemblies.
Quality and process improvement – improving efficiency and sustainability.
Production Engineering – studying how products are made and improving manufacturing processes for efficiency, quality, and safety.
Individual Major Project – The module requires students to manage and deliver a professional‑standard engineering project that synthesises prior learning, addresses an approved real‑world problem aligned with their target award, develops new skills beyond the taught syllabus, produces an evaluable solution or artefact, and includes an assessment of the project’s commercial potential.
Engineering mathematics and computation – The module extends the mathematics covered in earlier Higher National Diploma study by introducing additional engineering‑focused topics useful at level 6 and for future progression, while also teaching students to use industry‑standard software to model and solve engineering problems.
Engineering Systems Design and Simulation – The module develops a systems-based approach to analysing and designing complex electrical or mechanical systems – using case studies that include unfamiliar, interrelated subsystems – and builds advanced modelling skills that allow these real systems to be simulated with greater accuracy, with the modelling work based on the same systems explored in the analytical component.
Engineering Innovation – The module is designed to develop an understanding of innovation, creativity and problem solving as core requirements for business success in a globalised economy, and to provide students with the knowledge and skills required for successful exploitation of new ideas.
Further Materials Science – This module is designed to acquaint students with the principles underlying the relationships between structure and properties for a range of engineering materials. Students will wrestle with the issues of selecting fit for purpose materials for a range of engineering applications, and will evaluate their choices in the light of their understanding of the structure of the materials chosen.
Research Project – This module enables students to independently deliver a complex engineering research project while applying critical thinking, communicating effectively, and developing key analytical, creative, and collaborative skills.
Professional Engineering – This module teaches students the key professional standards and skills required of engineers—covering strategy, sustainability, management, and professional practice—so they can produce effective service delivery plans and demonstrate responsibility to society, the profession, and the environment.
Further Mathematics – This module trains students to use key mathematical methods—such as number theory, matrices, numerical techniques, and differential equations—to analyse and solve engineering problems.
Manufacturing – This module introduces students to lean manufacturing practices and advanced manufacturing technologies, enabling them to apply lean methods, understand their challenges, and evaluate how emerging digital and technological innovations can enhance organisational competitiveness.
Sustainability – On successful completion of this module the student with possess a wide range of knowledge and understanding of the issues and topics associated with sustainability and low carbon engineering.
Robotics – This module develops students’ understanding of industrial robot operation, control, programming, and safety by covering robot systems, sensors, drive mechanisms, end effectors, and mechatronics technologies used in modern robotic production environments.
Computer aided manufacturing – This module will introduce students to various manufacturing/machining scenarios. These encompass manufacture of automotive, aerospace and engineering components. It will cover manufacturing methods and techniques currently used within these application sectors.
Reports and essays – critically evaluating electrical and electronic concepts.
Project-based assignments and case studies – applying theory to engineering challenges.
Laboratory and workshop assessments – demonstrating technical and practical competence.
Presentations and professional discussions – developing confidence in communication and leadership.Examinations – testing knowledge of specialist topics.
Independent Major Project – producing a substantial research-based study in your chosen area.
Examinations – testing knowledge of core and specialist topics.
