During the first year of your biology course, you will gain a solid grounding in key biological concepts such as cells, genetics, evolution, physiology of humans and other animals, ecology and plant biology. From year two, you can choose to study topics across the biosciences or focus on key specialisms aligned to your career goals.
In your third year, you will have the opportunity to undertake a substantial piece of research on a topic that excites and challenges you. Your research project is an excellent opportunity for you to draw together skills in experimental study design, critical interpretation of data, presentation and project management. You will also present your findings as part of a realistic research conference experience.
During the final year of the MSci, an extended research project provides an immersive period of professional practice within a research-led environment. Working alongside an academic supervisor and the wider research team, you will develop advanced technical, analytical and independent research skills through hypothesis-driven investigation.
