Course summary

All of our engineering degrees provide project-based learning, helping you to develop the transferable skills and the multidisciplinary awareness so highly prized by industry. The Department of Engineering actively works with professional engineering institutions and encourages its students to engage with them.

The foundation year provides a route onto an engineering degree if you don't have the qualifications or have not studied advanced level subjects sufficiently related to your course of choice.

After successful completion of the foundation year in engineering, you can progress on to the relevant BEng (Hons) / BSc (Hons) degree.

Whichever route you take, you’ll have the skills and understanding you need to get started on your engineering career.

  • Build the skills for success: Helps you to develop the study skills and academic knowledge you will need to start Year 1 of your degree with confidence.

  • Financial support available: You will be eligible to apply for student finance in the same way as other undergraduates.

  • Professional study environment: Study in our £115m Dalton building, designed for collaboration, innovation and world-class learning and research.
