Train for international publishing roles with the International Publishing MA from City. From research-led assignments to digital content development, we will give you the extensive range of modern skills and knowledge required to succeed in this fascinating and forever changing industry. You will learn how international publishing is continuing to evolve alongside the digital revolution.
Our programme gives you an applied understanding of how physical and digital texts are conceived, developed and marketed.
Your learning will be directly influenced by your own publishing interests. This could mean publishing for entertainment, education, research or information.
Together with research-led analytical assignments, you will develop a portfolio that reflects the range of professional roles in contemporary global publishing
You will learn through lectures, project work, student-led projects and presentations, workshops, online learning and research, preparation of submitted work, site visits and discussions. Your final module is a substantial Major Project, which can include an approved industry project.
Visiting lecturers from the industry contribute to the programme throughout the teaching year, and in many cases directly support your project work.
A standard module consists of 20 timetabled hours in a combination of lectures, groupwork sessions and supervised project work. Each module also requires substantial study hours towards both individual and group assessments.
Core modules: All modules are 15 credits unless stated otherwise
Elective modules: All modules are 15 credits
You will define and develop a project, which can take the form of either professional practice or research. This will allow you to apply and further develop the knowledge and skills gained through the taught modules.
Summative assessment of the programme outcomes occurs across the eight 15 credit modules and 60 credit Major Project component. Individual modules deploy a range of assessment methods which include analytical essays; examinations; assessed group and individual projects, presentations with supporting research; portfolios; professionally realistic submissions, including marketing and business plans; research-based assignments; and a substantial Major Project (which can take the form of a professional project or research dissertation, or a combination of shorter professional and research elements).
Most 15-credit modules offer an individual assessment (which can be an essay, or a submission in a professional format) plus a group assignment (in which peer assessment of your contribution is likely be considered in the allocation of marks; and which may offer credit for the appropriateness of the presentation in addition to research and knowledge).
