MA Film (Documentary) is all about telling human stories through film. Building on your existing skills, this course sharpens your techniques and deepens your expertise in documentary filmmaking. You'll specialise in your chosen area, preparing to create professional, high-quality films that reflect real-world narratives with confidence.
You’ll work with top industry professionals and gain experience working at a factual production company. This course will provide you with skills essential to becoming a documentary filmmaker in today’s industry, including storytelling, research skills, self-shooting, single-camera filmmaking and film editing.
Applicants who are unsure as to which pathway they should apply for are encouraged to contact the course team for an informal discussion before making an application. Should you choose to apply for more than one pathway, your portfolio should demonstrate your interest and experience in each individual area and therefore more than one portfolio may be required.
Your assessment will be based on practical tasks from live briefs and production projects (70%), along with written reflections and critical analysis of your work (30%).
