This industry standard qualification is well recognised by employers and is designed to address an increasing need for high quality professional and technically skilled employees. The course will provide you with the critical skills and practical competencies sought by employers and required for progression to further higher education study.
This programme is an excellent progression option from the successful completion of the Level 3 BTEC National Certificate/Diploma or Extended Diploma in Construction or Civil Engineering. Preference will be given to merit grade students. Students with considerable experience with the industry will also be considered. You can be study over 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time making it an excellent option for those employed in the sector who are looking to further develop their skills.
You will cover a variety of topics within civil engineering. You will study eight units, with an emphasis on civil issues and techniques, such as structural design principles and application, site surveying procedures and soil mechanics. You will have opportunities to put your theoretical knowledge into practice with real tasks, including site surveying and evaluation site issues, through practical soil mechanics during geotechnical laboratory sessions.
