BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering equips you with the appropriate skills to practice successfully as a professional incorporated mechanical engineer. This one-year full-time Top Up degree is designed for students at Blackburn College who are completing their HND in Mechanical Engineering. It provides a direct route to achieving a BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering qualification.

The course includes elements of all relevant technologies and their applications throughout the programme. It blends essential mechanical engineering theory with hands‑on practical experience, giving you the skills, techniques, and professional awareness that modern engineering roles demand.

Bridging module

Because students joining from an HND may have studied slightly different content, you will be able to undertake a three week Bridging Module. This additional module is included in the cost of the one year Top Up programme and will be delivered in the first three weeks before the main course begins, ensuring you start the year fully prepared and not at a disadvantage.

Assessment method

Your progress on the programme is measured through a range of assessments that reflect real engineering practice. Each module has its own learning outcomes and assessment methods, and you will need to successfully complete all modules to achieve the award.

Assessment varies across the course and may include coursework, portfolios, assignments, case studies, presentations, team projects, computer based tests and examinations. This mix provides a flexible and effective way to demonstrate your understanding and skills.

Examinations may take different forms, including traditional unseen exams, open book formats or pre-briefed case study exams.
