Key Course Features:
Includes a foundation year to prepare you for further years of study.
You will work towards a FAW (Level 2) C Certificate, UEFA C Licence, and (Level 3) FAW/UEFA B coaching licences as part of your degree, giving you additional qualifications that enhance employability.
Lecturers are research-active and UEFA accredited, which means that the curriculum is engaging, current and relevant.
The dynamic lecture environment supports and challenges you to enhance and develop your understanding of the role of sports science within football.
The excellent student support from approachable staff will support you on a journey that takes you from personal development in the early part of your degree to professional development as you progress through the course.
You have the opportunity to gain applied experience working within a variety of football settings. Extensive links with partners will provide you with the opportunity to develop vocational and industry-relevant skills.

The British Association of Sports and Exercise Sciences (BASES) accredited laboratory.

Modules

What you will study
Students starting the football coaching degree at the foundation level will develop an understanding of the coaching process, practical coaching skills and sports science disciplines involved in football. You will develop personal, professional and academic skills which will enable you to transfer your newly gained knowledge of coaching and coaching science into the applied world of football.

Throughout the degree, you will enhance your coaching profile by completing football-specific industry-recognised qualifications such as the FAW Level 1 Football Leaders Award, FAW C Certificate and the FAW/UEFA B Licence.

YEAR 1 (FOUNDATION YEAR)
The Foundation Year is an integrated year where you will study core modules with a broad range of students from across the Faculty of Social and Life Sciences, giving you access to different perspectives and networking opportunities.

The modules will equip you with key skills needed for Higher Education and beyond. They will give you the chance to explore your subject area and available careers, allowing you to adapt your reading and assessments to be relevant to your degree pathway.

Alongside teaching from the broader faculty staff, you will be able to meet with staff and other students from your main degree pathway and get involved with events and opportunities that they are running.

Assessment method

Teaching & Assessment
A wide range of assessment methods will be used to test your knowledge and understanding. These include practical assessments, examinations, essays, portfolios, reports, presentations, online discussions and case study evaluations.

You will be assessed on your ability to analyse coaching activities, use specialist video software, undertake field-based work and conduct independent research.

You will be expected to complete a dissertation as part of your final assessment.

TEACHING AND LEARNING

Wrexham University is committed to supporting our students to maximise their academic potential.

We offer workshops and support sessions in areas such as academic writing, effective note-making and preparing for assignments. Students can book appointments with academic skills tutors dedicated to helping deal with the practicalities of university work. Our general entry requirement for the foundation year is 48-72 UCAS tariff points but all applications are considered individually and we consider work experience, vocational training/qualifications as well as motivation and potential to succeed. The programme welcomes applications from anyone who can demonstrate a commitment to the subject and the potential to complete their chosen programme successfully. This can be established by showing appropriate academic achievements or by demonstrating that they possess the knowledge and ability equivalent to the academic qualifications.
